About Everythink
I am Josh Vanderberg. I live in Chicago, and am rather smitten by this beautiful city. I came here about 9 years ago for graduate school, and liked the place so much I decided to stay. Currently I live in the rather interesting neighborhood of Lakeview, a few blocks from Wrigley Field, the home of the Cubs. It's a strange neighborhood indeed where in the course of five minutes you can walk past gay bars filled with leather clad men and sports bars overflowing with drunken jocks swearing at the game on the overhead TV.
I try to put a little bit of every thing I do and think about on Everythink - thus the name. I dabble in writing, though other than the blog, little of it makes it onto Everythink. I've taken up a more recent interest in photography, after the purchase of a wonderful Canon Powershot G3 digital camera. The novelty seems to have worn off a bit, so I am not posting new pics as frequently as I'd like.
I am also an avid consumer of books and movies. I've made a pact with myself to post a review of every movie I see this year on Everythink. I've fallen behind a bit of late, and had to alter the pact to cover only movies I've seen in the theatre.
The blog is a running experiment. I try, sometimes successfully, sometimes not, to provoke interesting discussions. This is why, unlike on most other blogs, comments are displayed on the same page with my blog entries.
Being a programmer, I often post about new technological or scientific developments, even though these tend to garner few comments. Hopefully someone out there finds these entries interesting.
Finally, related to programming, there is one rather unique fact about my blog: I wrote all of the code that generates the blog and the rest of the Everythink web site. I wrote the web server code in Java during the Winter of 2003, and the blog code has been evolving ever since then into it's present state - such as it is.
